Gold Industry

Ghana is one of the leading producers of gold in Africa and the seventh leading producer in the world. Ghana produces more gold per square kilometer than Nevada and holds more estimated reserves than key gold-producing countries like Peru and Papua New Guinea.

The Mining industry of Ghana accounts for 5% of the country's GDP and minerals make up 37% of total exports, of which gold contributes over 90% of the total mineral exports.

Southern Ghana has been considered one of the world’s most prolific regions for gold discoveries for some time.

The Government of Ghana seeks to move up the value chain in the gold industry and would welcome viable partnerships with prospective private investors who would like to engage in gold processing and jewellery production in Ghana.

Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources

The Ministry was established under Section 11 of the Civil Service Law, 1993 (PNDCL 327), and is mandated to ensure the sustainable management and utilization of the nation’s lands, forests and wildlife resources as well as the efficient management of the mineral resources for socio-economic growth and development.

Minerals Commission

The Minerals Commission of Ghana is the Government agency with the primary responsibility of developing and coordinating mineral sector policies and monitoring their implementation.The Comission is also engaged for the regulation and management of the utilization of the mineral resources of Ghana and the co-ordination of the policies.
