Welcome to the Consular Department. This section provides general information on the range of consular services that Ghanaian nationals, foreigners and Mauritians can access. These services include the issuance of visas and Emergency Travel Certificates, processing of Passports applications and authentication of documents.

FAQ

Yes, you will require a visa to travel to Ghana unless you are a National of one of the listed countries under the “Exempted Countries” list.
A. Nationals of ECOWAS Countries:
Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Cote D'Ivoire, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo.

B. Holders of Diplomatic, Service or Official Passports:
Brazil, Equatorial Guinea, Federal Republic of Germany, Hungary, Hong Kong (Diplomatic only), India, Kingdom of Morocco, Namibia, People’s Republic of China, Republic of Cuba Republic of South Africa, Republic of Sudan, Republic of Turkey (Diplomatic only).
NB: Category B above shall be for a period not exceeding ninety (90) days from date of entry.

C. All nationals of the following countries:
Jamaica, Barbados, Kenya, Lesotho, Indonesia, Malawi, Mauritius, Republic of Seychelles, Rwanda, Singapore, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda,Zimbabwe.

D.List of International Organizations with which Ghana has concluded Visa exemption agreements
Holders of passports of Regional Economic Communities in Africa and the African Economic Community United Nations and its Specialized Agencies.
1. Visas may be granted to personnel of International Organizations and visitors to Ghana for tourism, study, business or transit.

2. The visa may be granted for single or multiple entry.

3. Visas are valid for a period of three (3) months and must be utilized within three (3) months of the date of issue. Visas valid for up to one year may be granted for specific purposes.

4. Visitors travelling on Business are required to furnish evidence of the fact, such as a letter from their firm, while those travelling at the invitation of Ghanaian nationals or residence or Ghanaian institutions should furnish a letter of invitation from their hosts.

5. Visitors may be required to provide a return or a through ticket to a country which they have the right of admission or may be required to show evidence of sufficient funds for the duration of their stay in the country. Prospective employees may undertake employment within the authorized immigrant quota. Emergency visas may be issued at entry points to travelers who arrive from a country where there is no Ghanaian Diplomatic or Consular representation, but such applications must be authorized by the Director of the Immigration Service through their sponsors before they arrive in Ghana.

6. Applications for further extension to visitors' permit must be made to the Director of the Ghana Immigration Service for consideration. Tourists may be allowed a period of stay of three (3) months if the Ghana Immigration Service is satisfied that such tourists have sufficient means of financial support. Persons who enter the country as visitors are not permitted to take up employment even if there happens to be a vacancy on the Immigrant Quota of a prospective employer.

7. Professionals (doctors, lawyers, nurses, etc.), are required to provide particulars of their qualifications in order that the eligibility of their registration may be determined.

8. Applicants on a VISIT to Ghana must provide a letter of invitation from their host in Ghana.

Travelers are strongly advised to ensure that they have all the necessary traveling documents before arriving in Ghana.
1. Valid passport and copies of the bio-data page of the passport. Passport should be valid for at least six (6) months and must have at least two (2) blank pages opposite each other.

2. Visa Application Forms to be completed and signed by applicant.

3. Color Passport size photo to be uploaded with application before submitting. (Taken not more than three (3) months prior to application) and showing full face of applicant, without a hat, cap and sunglasses.

4. Business, Residential addresses and contact telephone numbers to be provided.

5. Occupation.

6. Financial means to be indicated.

7. Contact information i.e. telephone number (mobile) and email address.

8. Names and Addresses of references and/ Accommodation in Ghana (if it is a hotel, details are to be provided).

9. Proposed date of travel.

11. Letter of consent from parent/legal guardian for children under 18 years.

1. Visa application fees are Non-Refundable whether your application is successful or not.
2. In cases of double payment and over-payment of consular fees, applicants can request a refund of the extra amount.
3. The Consulate-General would not refund the fee if your application was not processed within the specified time due to circumstances beyond its reasonable control.

1. Visa will only be issued when all requirements have been fully satisfied. Minimum three (3) working days is required for the processing of standard visas. Applicants are therefore, required to deposit their passports, together with the completed visa application forms, with the supporting documents well ahead of the time of proposed date of travel, in order to avoid possible delays.

2. Expedited service is also available.
The following special fees agreed upon between the Governments of Ghana and the United States of America (USA) apply to American passport holders ONLY:

1. Single entry three (3) months: US$ 60.00
2. Multiple entry five (5) years: US$ 100.00
3. Expedited processing of visas is an optional feature that would attract extra fees.
